The Play that Goes Wrong was my first production at Theatre Charlotte. The Head Designer, JP Woodey, was working another production at the Belk Theatre the week of tech, so he asked me to come and associate design for this show. We started the production the Sunday before tech week and had our cue to cue that night. For programming, JP acted as the designer and I was the programmer on the show. It was honestly one of the most beneficial learning experiences that I have been a part of to become very proficient in programming. It was very helpful to see all of the skills that I had learned in ETC’s programming class put into context of a big production on a very advanced board. I got to see which skills professional designers used and which they kind of skipped over. Once the design process was over, JP left and I was in charge of opening the show. During tech week I trained the board operator, attended production feed back, adjusted cues to the directors vision, and added atmospheric effects into cues.
