Legally Blonde was a very last minute show for me. I got the call asking if I would come and design 1 week before tech week, in a theater I had never worked at, on a board that I had never worked on, for a show that I had never even seen, but even though a lot of pieces were against me I stepped up and said yes.
It was my first community Theater show so I had no idea what to expect. I went straight from High School theater where all of my classmates were the actors to a show where there were 15 year olds and 70 year olds dancing next to each other portraying college students. I had worked with the director before for multiple different shows, that’s why I ended up getting the call when their main designer said she wouldn’t do the show.
Working on Legally Blonde has been the most challenging, but most successful experience in my short time as a designer. I was given full creative freedom with the lights, which was a little daunting at first, but is one of the reasons that it is my favorite show. After putting in countless hours hanging, focusing, and programming the show, I am so proud of what I was able to create.
